Allow me to be the first to officially welcome you to Save Surface.
Believe me, all the Surface fans here can understand perfectly how you feel about losing such a great show. We have all been through it.
Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it at this point, as it's up to the brothers Pate, and their mom told me in her last email that they have accepted it and moved on. Jonas no longer responds to my emails asking about the possibilities of doing something else with the show.
I suspect the whole thing is under NBC's control anyway and it should be clear to everyone by now, they have their heads up someplace dark. Hell, they don't even really how deep the crap is that their network is stuck in, based on what I've been reading.
There is precious little info on the Pates around, but I do know a couple of things. Their parents own an eatery in N.C. (I think it is) where they were raised. They got noticed when they put a billboard up next to a building owned by Dennis Hopper, asking for his help with their screenplays. He was impressed and gave them a shot.
They have done a few (relatively) successful things, but I have noticed (and what might have hurt them with NBC) is that they like doing expensive location shooting and costly digital effects in the pursuit of their visions.
Jonas also told me that there is a second season of Surface already written. Apparently it is left to sit there, collecting dust.
Sorry if that bums you out more. It sure does us. I wish he would have at least told US how it turns out. LOLOLOL
